Miami University currently has multiple openings for Application Developers and Systems Administrators requiring various levels of qualifications and experience.

Application Developer – I or II

Under specific or general direction, participate in an agile team responsible for delivering solutions, including acquisition, implementation, and integration of locally hosted and SaaS third party software, development of custom solutions, and supporting applications. Work effectively with the team and be accountable to the team.

Information Security Analyst I or II

Information Security Analysts, perform documented information security processes, with a primary focus on the university’s information security risk assessment process.  As directed, research information security topics, tools, techniques, and threats.  May serve as an information security resource on projects.

Systems Administrator I or II

Systems Administrators manage infrastructure and integrated technical services providing the highest levels of availability, reliability, performance and service in support of Miami University’s academic, research and business missions.


Application Developers

Required Qualifications

Application Developer I Apply

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field obtained by date of hire.

Application Developer II Apply

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field obtained by date of hire.
  • 2 years of experience in web-based, application development and using database management systems in application development.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted. Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; knowledge of web services (REST or SOA); exposure to application development in a Linux, Windows, or SaaS environment; exposure to Agile methodologies including Scrum and/or Kanban; and knowledge of PHP, Perl, or similar languages.

Salary Ranges:

  • Application Developer I – $45,000 – $53,000
  • Application Developer II – $53,000 – $60,000

Systems Administrator I or II

Required Qualifications

Systems Administrator I or II Apply

Systems Administrator I requires basic experience and Systems Administrator II requires at least 2 years’ experience in the following:

  • Experience required in the installation, upgrades, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and security of server operating systems.
  • Experience in evaluating, customizing and diagnosing server operating system software in a complex and heterogeneous environment.
  • Experience in architectural design of servers and associate subsystems including operating systems, storage, backups, services, monitoring and alerting.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted. Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications

Systems Administrator I or II (Appointment at Level II assumes 2+ years of experience)

  • Experience with systems administration support and problem resolution on current flavors of Windows/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience in the administration of a large number of physical and virtual Windows/Linux servers in a complex and heterogeneous environment.
  • Experience with Administration of Enterprise Backup Solutions.
  • Experience with Administration of infrastructure monitoring system.
  • Experience with Administration of cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Ability to effectively work with incident and change management procedures.
  • Preferred Industry Certifications: Vmware VCAP5-DCA, Linux+, Certified MCSA Senior Systems

Information Security Analyst I or II

  • Associate's degree earned by date of hire or 1 year relevant experience.

Information Security Analyst II Requires:

  • Bachelor's degree earned by date of hire and 2 years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Information Security Analyst I or II (Appointment at Level II assumes 2+ years of experience)

  • BA degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Experience with information security risk assessment concepts, methodologies, frameworks, and processes.
  • Experience with information security concepts, methodologies, & processes.
  • Experience with network security concepts, methodologies, processes, & tools.
  • Experience with application security concepts, methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with security awareness security concepts, methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with information risk assessment and mitigation concepts, methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with forensics concepts, methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with compliance concepts, methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Ability and necessary knowledge to determine the cause of problems and generate solutions to those problems.
  • Prior service in an information security role in Higher education.
